José Carreras... Quote. Unquote. |

On hearing a cell phone ring during his recital in Cadiz, 21 September 2002... "It is a boy or a girl ? Because that's the only reason to keep a cell phone switched on" __________________________ On being asked in a telephone interview by the Chicago Tribune in 2000 "Mr. Domingo and Mr. Pavarotti have web sites. Why don't you have a web site?... "I don't know what is a web site." __________________________ On being asked by his Italian friend, Enrico Miglioli, why he swears in Italian even when he's speaking Spanish... "Well, because you swear more colourfully, there's more gusto. Our swear words are more monotonous... and when I swear in Italian, it doesn't even seem like swearing." __________________________ On his uneasy relationship with the high C (Time Magazine, 25 September 1989)... ''I'm known as 'the King of the high A's' '' __________________________ On his lack of gregariousness after performances (Time Magazine, 25 September 1989)... ''Luciano receives people in his dressing room after a performance. You have the impression that you have been the only spectator -- that he has been singing the whole night for you. I would like to be like this sometimes. I know how to be cordial, polite. But I feel like saying, 'Thank you very much. I love all of you. But please let me alone.' I'm more egotistical.'' __________________________ |

Guitarist Cor Mutsers who accompanied Carreras on his 2004 German tour... "We had a rehearsal at 17.00 at the Alte Oper. After Kiel this was a piece of cake, less than 350 km (single journey!). We had been asked to bring a "Suit and Tie" after all, "as this place is holy for Mr. Carreras". "Okay, no problem"! After Patrick and I had changed and we were ready in our "Cultural Battle Suits", Carreras walked past, he saw us in the suits, complete with bow ties, and went down on his knees on the spot, touching the floor with his hands as if he saw Allah. Laughter on both sides, and of course we immediately shot this picture. Great fun!" |
